CAMPBELL AND CAFE WIN VOLKSWAGEN NATIONAL SLALOM SKI TITLES

New Zealand representative Nicola Campbell (Dunedin) has made a clean
sweep of the Volkswagen Alpine National Ski Championships winning the
slalom title at Turoa yesterday, after earlier taking o the giant slalom
title.
The national slalom, which had to be postponed because of bad weather
last week, was held yesterday as a paper race during the Australia New
Zealand Cup slalom final.
Eighteen-year-old Tim Cafe (Queenstown), a member of the men's national
team, won both the men's open and the men's junior slalom titles. He finished
seventh overall in the ANC field. The national J1 title was won by Andrew
Wylie (Queenstown) who was placed 10th.
Campbell took second place in the women's ANC final and as first New Zealander
won the title. The race was won by Nicole Kuster of Switzerland and national
women's team member Michelle Greig (Queenstown) finished third to take
out the New Zealand women's junior slalom title.
Alice Ralston (Auckland) won the national J1 title and was eighth overall.
The men's ANC slalom was dominated by the Australians. Jonathon Brauer
and Bradley Wall tussled for top position with Brauer narrowly winning
in a combined time of 1.37.21 while Wall clocked 1.37.86. Fellow countryman
Scott Gange finished third in 1.38.44.
