| ATHLETE NEWS The school holidays have been a great start for Ruapehu Sport with heaps of snow and blue skies. So far this season Mt Ruapehu has amassed over 2 metres of snow and along with great weather, Ruapehu Sport kicks off its first season with a bang. THe conditions have provided great training from the first day of the programme. Ruapehu Sport is a competitive snowsports programme offered at Mt Ruapehu. It encompasses ski racing as well as freestyle skiing and snowboarding. The name "Ruapehu Sport" is a branding of the programme that has been running at Mt Ruapehu for many years. This branding was completed in an effort to raise the profile of snowsport competition and help the public to dif ferentiate the on mountain products that Mt Ruapehu offers. The Ruapehu Sport programme involves training and support to athletes from both Turoa and Whakapapa ski areas. As a result this has encouraged the previous clubs at Mt Ruapehu, Team Turoa and Whakapapa Snowsports to become one club. The new club is named Ruapehu Snow Sports and has a mandate to support all athletes through fundraising and raising the profile of the programme and snow sports. Ruapehu Sport is managed by John Armstrong and assisted by Sam Zander at Turoa and Delwyn Armstrong at Whakapapa Ski Areas. Their new website is www.ruapehusport.com. Written and provided by John Armstrong. |
