Welcome to Ski Racing New Zealand’s second e news.  Hot news this month is Mark Bridgwater’s second foray in to the World Cup.  Other news this month, University Games selection criteria are now published and for members, board minutes are now available in the members section of the website.

Another World Cup experience

Mark Bridgwater and Coach Nils Coberger, together with new serviceman Mike Eyles have recently attended the Men's World Cup event at Lake Louise in Canada.  It was Mark's second ever World Cup Downhill and despite some tough equipment challenges, Mark finished a credible 4.7 seconds behind the winner.

 

TEAM NEWS

Volkswagen National Development Team off to Canada

The Volkswagen National Development team are off to join their fellow team members in Canada this week.  Coach Mike Gould, with athletes, Jamie Prebble, Allie McGlinn, Nicola Eves, Charlotte Newbold & Taylor Rapley left yesterday for their base in Canmore, Canada.  They will be joined on Tuesday by Harriet Miller-Brown who has few exams left to do before she departs.  They will be training at Nakiska with the Volkswagen National Ski Team, before Christmas.  After Christmas, the rest of the Volkswagen National Development Team will be meeting up with them.  Keep checking the website for more information about their programme and results.

2009 World University Winter Games selection criteria

Information on the Harbin (China) Winter Games is now available, the letter from New Zealand Chef de Mission, Mike Forrestal outlines the events being held at these games and what you have to do to be considered for selection for the team.  For the full letter click the link below or contact Mike direct on mforres@gmail.com.  Applications for selection will be considered from 1st May 2008.

SRNZ Announces Raffle winner

The raffle that was held for a secondary sponsor for the Volkswagen National Ski Team has been drawn and the winner is the Sea Kayak Company of Nelson. So for the coming six months the Volkswagen National Ski Team will be in association with the Sea Kayak Company.  A big thank you to all those of you who bought tickets and supported us in our fundraising efforts to provide our top skiers with the support of a ski tech for their race programme in North America.  More to follow soon, but in the meantime please visit our sponsors Volkswagen and now the Sea Kayak Company.

Board news

The new board have met twice since the AGM, full minutes of both meetings and the draft minutes for the AGM are now available to members of SRNZ, in the members section of the website.  However to give you a sample of what’s been discussed at these meetings, some of the topics are listed below.

Race Entries

As in previous years race entries for all New Zealand athletes from overseas must come through the office, to ensure that these are dealt with in a timely fashion please send through details as far in advance as possible.  Requests for entries should be sent to simon@skiracing.org.nz

World Junior Championships, Whistler Cup & Topolino Selections

As per the information in the handbook and following the constitution, the board have appointed, in the absence of our Alpine Director, a panel of selectors to review the nominations for these events.  The selectors are currently reviewing the applications and individuals will be notified of their success or failure.  Following this a public announcement will be made on our website.

Let us know how you are getting on

With so many athletes heading overseas this summer, there will be lots of people to keep track of, please help the Ski Racing community by sending in regular reports and photos, highlighting any results so that these can be published on our website and in our newsletters.

What’s happening next year?

In the next few days the draft will be released, some final finishing touches are being put to it now.  At the same time a draft proposal for the K Cup will be released, both of these will be published on our website, thank you for your patience in this.
