Griffin scores his best ever European FIS point result

20 April 2009

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand (April 20, 2009)   Ben Griffin, 22, of Ohakune, has triumphed once again, after finishing third in a FIS Giant Slalom race in Kutai, Austria and scoring his best ever European FIS point result – 22.99-points against a strong field of Europeans including a 10-point Austrian skier.

Griffin, who recently returned to snow after an 11 month injury break, is feeling good about the upcoming Southern Hemisphere season.

“This result has been a big bonus to a successful return to snow, proving I am skiing well and am on track for good results in New Zealand this winter,” said Griffin.

The result in Kutai came hot at the heels of another podium success in a FIS Super G in Auron, France where Griffin placed second ahead of 100 racers.

Griffin has now returned back to New Zealand with his coach, Nils Coberger. They are very confident of strong results going into the next winter.

Griffin remains on track to qualify for the Winter Olympics, 2010 in Vancouver, Canada. He is a member of the Ski Racing New Zealand National Team.

Snow Sports New Zealand is the official governing body and National Sports Organisation representing all snow sports in New Zealand. Ski Racing New Zealand is a member of Snow Sports New Zealand.
