WANAKA (27th May 2009) Snow Sports New Zealand (SSNZ) have launched a new Coaching Development Programme and website, Snow Sports Coaching NZ. The programme is designed to support the development of Kiwi snow sports athletes through to education of their coaches.
The new programme, led by SSNZ Coach and Sport Development Director, Adam Dooney, is committed to educating and skill-development for coaches in five different competitive snow sport disciplines: Alpine Ski Racing, Freeskiing, Snowboarding, Cross Country Skiing, and Adaptive Snow Sports.
“The Progamme will outline a pathway for coaches and is in-line with the stages of athlete development,” said Dooney. “It will help coaches continue their education, expand their knowledge and refine their skills, all with the end goal of facilitating the development of Kiwi snow sport athletes.”
Snow Sports Coaching is launching several new courses including off-snow and on-snow courses available to entry level and performance coaches this year. High performance level courses are planned for 2010.
Information and registration for off-snow courses can be found on www.snowsports-coaching.co.nz/coaching-education/ , while on-snow sport specific coaching courses will be available for Snowboarding, Freeskiing and Ski Racing. Go to www.snowsports-coaching.co.nz/dates-and-prices/ for the dates and venues.
This coaching initiative is a cooperative between SSNZ, Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) and the New Zealand Snowsports Instructors Alliance (NZSIA). SSNZ provides the principal guidance and structure for this initiative. We are supported by the NZSIA in providing administration for the Coach Development Programme.
Snow Sports New Zealand is the official governing body and National Sports Organisation representing all snow sports in New Zealand.
