03 September 2009

Wanaka, New Zealand - September 3rd, 2009 - Competitors were treated to blue skies and cold wintry snow for the Elite FIS Slalom Race today at Treble Cone. This race follows yesterdays hotly contested Giant Slalom where Treble Cone Race Academy nearly swept the podiums.

The US Women's team dominated the first run with nine women in the top 15. After the second run it was Ukranian Anastasiya Skryabina with a combined time of (1:32.78) clinching first. Coming in a close second was TCRA Racer Jacqueline Lebel from the US (1:35.16) and in third Niki Sole of Great Britain with a time of (1:35.53).

On the men's side the racer to watch was TCRA Racer Leif Kristian Haugen of Norway. Coming off of his 2nd place yesterday and two back to back 2nd place finishes at the Air NZ FIS Southern Cup; he finished first today with a combined time of (1:19.72).

The large field of international athletes battled out for the top spots, but it was TCRA Racer Kilian Albrecht of Bulgaria with a combined time of (1:20.28) taking second and Swedish Racer Magnus Andersson in third with a time of (1:21.18).

Once again the Treble Cone Race Academy placed incredibly well in the field, holding up to the high expectations held by the team. They had three podiums and six athletes in the men's top 15 and five in the women's respectively.

Monique Oosterbaan of New Zealand had the top time (44.96) after her first run and held on through the second run finishing in fourth place with a combined time of 1:36.27. The top Kiwi male was Wilbur Coote placing 34th with a combined time of 1:37.11.

The Treble Cone Elite FIS Race has been running for over seven years. With the strength and reputation of the Treble Cone Race Academy, the Elite FIS Race always draws top international racers to the unique and iconic venue.
