THE AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND CUP FINALS START WITH SUPER G AND SUPER COMBINED

GRIFFIN AND TAIT-JAMIESON LEAD THE KIWIS

Mt. Hutt, New Zealand – 08 September, 2009 – The first day of the Australia New Zealand Cup took place today with The Super Combined and the Super G races at Mt Hutt.

In Super Combined, where the time from one from Super G is combined and a run from Slalom is combined, Sweden’s Niklas Rainer shined as the fastest racer of the Day, with a speedy combined time of 1.44.72.

Frenchman Richard Antonioni placing second in 1.45.79, while Noel Baxter, of Great Britain, finished third with a time of 1.46.10 in the Men’s.

Ben Griffin, of Ohakune, posted a combined time of 1.46.87, making him the fastest male Kiwi of the day and the sixth fastest overall.

Viktoria Rebensburg, of Germany, led the Women’s with 1.40.35, while Canadian Emily Brydon secured silver with 1.40.59 and Agnieszka Daniel Gasienica, of Poland, posted a time of 1.40.74 and placed third.

Making the fastest time for a Kiwi was Lucie Tait-Jamieson, of Auckland, finishing in eighth place overall in 1.42.80.
In the Super G alone, where the results were taken from the Super Combined, Griffin also led the Kiwis in the men’s with a time of 1.01.52 and placing fifth overall, while Tait-Jamieson was the fastest New Zealand Women with 1.04.35.

Top podium placing in the Men’s Super G went to Rainer, with 1.00.26. The USA’s Travis Ganong (1.00.66) and Nathan Asoian (1.01.39) placed second and third respectively.

Taking out the Women’s Super G was Canadian Britt Janyk (1.01.73), followed by Rebensburg in close second with 1.01.90 and Brydon in third with 1.02.08.

Mt Hutt Ski Area Manager David Wilson is excited to be facilitating this week’s ANC Finals.

“We’ve run these events for a number of years, but it’s as good as it gets this year with fantastic snow conditions and over 25 countries competing,” said Wilson.
